Does Zara run big or small?

From Zara’s own foot lengths: first against the other brands’ charts, size for size (whether a US size is made for a longer or shorter foot than theirs), then against the standard size tables, foot by foot. Brands measure differently (Nike’s chart, for one, prints a box size in centimetres beside the foot length and says the two differ), so this is what each chart advises, not a fit test.

Men’s

Zara sits in the middle in men’s shoes, against 23 other brands’ charts: size for size, its chart is made for a longer foot than another brand’s 49% of the time, about the same (within 2.5 mm) 21% and a shorter one 30%. Your usual US size is a good start; check your foot length on its chart.

Against the standard size tables, Zara’s chart gives a US size half a size to 2 sizes smaller for 7 of 11 foot lengths from 24.0 to 30.0 cm: its sizes allow a longer foot than the standard ones.

For example, Zara’s men’s US 9 is for a foot up to 27.0 cm (the standard US 9: 26.25 cm). The other 23 brands’ charts make it for a foot from 26.0 to 27.7 cm: 11 for a shorter foot than Zara’s, 10 for about the same (within 1 mm) and 2 for a longer one.

Women’s

Zara runs large in women’s shoes, against 21 other brands’ charts: size for size, its chart is made for a longer foot than another brand’s 75% of the time, about the same (within 2.5 mm) 18% and a shorter one 7%, typically by half a size. Go about half a size down from the size you wear in most brands, or size from your foot length on its chart.

Against the standard size tables, Zara’s chart gives a US size half a size to 1½ sizes smaller for 10 of 10 foot lengths from 22.0 to 27.5 cm: its sizes allow a longer foot than the standard ones.

For example, Zara’s women’s US 8 is for a foot up to 25.3 cm (the standard US 8: 24.1 cm). The other 21 brands’ charts make it for a foot from 24.0 to 25.0 cm: 21 for a shorter foot than Zara’s, 0 for about the same (within 1 mm) and 0 for a longer one.
